EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) Notifications (Week 22 of 2024)
According to the EU's official website, in the notifications for Week 22 of 2024, the EU's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) reported 5 cases involving food and related products from China.
The specific notification details are as follows:
- On May 29, 2024, Italy reported dog chew toys due to incomplete labeling (not indicating goat and poultry DNA). The products were detained by authorities and subject to increased checks.
- On May 29, 2024, the Netherlands reported miso noodles due to the presence of an unauthorized genetically modified ingredient (CrylAb/CrylAc). The products were detained by authorities.
- On May 29, 2024, Spain reported plastic bowls due to excessive migration of melamine (1.4 ± 0.3; 0.59 ± 0.16; 6.4 ± 0.7 mg/kg). The products were distributed to other member states, and recipients were notified.
- On May 29, 2024, the Netherlands reported buckwheat due to exceeding the maximum limit for aflatoxin B1 (4.4 μg/kg, limit is 2.0 μg/kg). The products were distributed to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Spain and Sweden, and recipients were notified.
- On May 31, 2024, Spain reported ground dried chili peppers due to the detection of Salmonella. The products were detained by authorities.
The food industry is advised to strictly follow import requirements, pay attention to the presence of mycotoxins and pathogens in foods, as well as migration levels in food contact materials, to ensure product safety and avoid export risks.
