Evonik Opens Life Sciences R&D Center in Greater Boston
Creavis, Evonik’s strategic innovation unit and business incubator, has opened an Innovation Satellite with laboratories and offices in the Greater Boston metropolitan area in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The activities will initially focus on the research and development of medical innovations, such as nucleic acid drugs. Evonik’s venture capital activities in the medical field will benefit from its presence in the North American life science cluster.
“With our new Innovation Satellite in Cambridge, we are extending an invitation to collaborate with outstanding talent in this dynamic region,” said Anil Saxena, Head of Innovation Satellite, who also leads Evonik’s Research & Development & Innovation (RD&I) in North America. “We look forward to integrating our capabilities into the local life science ecosystem and driving industry growth,” added Christian Kessler, Head of Life Sciences at Creavis.
The Greater Boston area is one of the world’s largest biotech hubs, with more than 1,000 biotech companies, from small startups to established pharmaceutical giants, thanks to its unparalleled ecosystem, including world-class academic institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), venture capital firms, and a collaborative environment. Evonik is a long-standing member of the MIT Industrial Liaison Program, which is dedicated to building long-term strategic relationships between universities and major global companies.
“Addressing the global challenges of our time requires the cooperation of competent partners around the world, and we look forward to jointly developing innovative solutions. We are strengthening regional R&D in North America and Asia to benefit from innovative ideas outside Europe and to be closer to customers in these regions,” said Ralph Marquardt, Chief Innovation Officer of the Germany-based specialty chemicals company.
North America has become a key growth region for Evonik,” added Guido Skudlarek, President of Evonik North America. “The Cambridge Innovation Satellite will contribute to the next stage of our expansion in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. ”
