TotalEnergies acquires oil regeneration specialist Tecoil
TotalEnergies announces the acquisition of Tecoil, a Finnish company for Re-Refined Base Oils (RRBO) with the most efficient waste oil regeneration process on the market.
Tecoil currently has a production facility in Hamina in Eastern Finland with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year of RRBO. Tecoil has established its own circular economy network for collecting used lubricant oils in Europe and supplying them to plants.
Through Tecoil’s optimized “re-refining” process, waste oils are treated to properties comparable to the best pure base oils. These high-quality base oils are used to manufacture lubricants that meet new customer demands for circularity and sustainability. They significantly reduce the carbon footprint of lubricants while achieving the performance levels expected and recognized by many automotive manufacturers.
Pierre Duhot, Senior Vice President of Lubricants and Specialties at TotalEnergies, said: "The integration of Tecoil into TotalEnergies will enable us to accelerate the application of RRBO in the production of high-end lubricants to meet the growing customer demand for increasingly high-performance, environmentally friendly products. We are pleased to welcome the Tecoil team and combine their expertise in base oil processing with TotalEnergies' recognized expertise in lubricant production and distribution."
Juha Kokko, CEO of Tecoil, said: "Joining TotalEnergies is a great pleasure and an opportunity to strengthen and grow the Tecoil business. This will allow us to jointly consolidate our work, knowledge and developments in the lubricant industry and meet the new challenges and ambitions of our customers."
