Moldova Intends To Amend Technical Regulations For Products Such As Coffee And Tea

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova has published a consultation document on amendments to the country's current technical regulations on products such as coffee and tea. According to the public information, it mainly involves the following aspects:

1. Revise the definition of coffee, liquid coffee, instant coffee, green tea and other products.

2. Require manufacturers to maintain traceability records, such as raw material names, product batches, etc., and verify the sensory properties, appearance forms, labels and net content of each batch of products. Product safety and hygiene indicators and laboratory sampling should be carried out according to the self-control plan.

3. For decaffeinated coffee, the label must contain the word "decaffeinated" and the anhydrous caffeine content must not exceed 0.3% of the coffee content. If the new food contains more than 150mg/l of caffeine, it should also indicate on the label that the caffeine content is high, and it is not recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women.

The revision aims to further standardize the production and labeling management of coffee and tea products, improve product quality and safety, and effectively protect the rights and interests of consumers. Businesses and consumers have until July 22 to submit suggestions.
