PaintCare Inc., a non-profit organization (and program of the American Coatings Association) that represents paint manufacturers and stewardship programs in the U.S. has launched a new grant competition with the goal to develop recycling options for latex paint.

According to PaintCare, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that as much as 10 percent of the architectural paint purchased annually in the U.S. ends up “left over,” and PaintCare notes that while most of that paint can be easily recycled, there are few options to recycle spoiled, frozen and dried latex paints.

That’s where the program comes in. The PaintCare Innovative Recycling Grant Competition is seeking to identify and help develop the best ideas for cycling leftover latex paint.

PaintCare will conduct three separate competitions using funding from the PaintCare programs in California, Colorado and Connecticut for each state’s respective competition. The grantee, individual or entity of each competition will be awarded a grant of up to $100,000 for an idea that is expected to return benefits to the state that contributed the funding.

The competition is open to individuals and organizations located in the U.S. The competition officially opened Dec. 17, 2018, and closes on March 22.The grantees will be notified by April 30.
