Astrazeneca Acquires Pinetree Therapeutics' EGFR Degrader for Over $500 Million

ECHEMI 2024-07-25

Astrazeneca, the world's leading pharmaceutical company, has recently renewed its M&A strategy to expand its drug discovery portfolio. Pinetree Therapeutics is pleased to announce today that it has entered into an exclusive option and global license agreement with Astrazeneca to advance the development and commercialization of its preclinical EGFR inhibitor candidate.

Under the terms of the agreement, Astrazeneca has obtained exclusive worldwide development and commercialization rights for Pinetree's EGFR reducers. In return, Pinetree will receive up to $45 million in upfront and milestone payments, and potentially more than $500 million in additional development and commercial milestone payments. In addition, Pinetree will receive tiered royalties from global net sales.

Pinetree's pan-EGFR depressant, developed using its innovative AbReptorTM multispecific antibody platform, has demonstrated significant antitumor activity against TKI-resistant tumors in preclinical studies. When combined with existing EGFR inhibitors, its activity can be further enhanced.

Pinetree Therapeutics' CEO said: "This collaboration with Astrazeneca demonstrates the potential of our innovative technology and the promise of our EGFR inhibitor program. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Astrazeneca to advance the development of drug candidates and use our platform to create even more next-generation targeted protein-degrading therapies."

The transaction not only strengthens Astrazeneca's oncology pipeline, but also demonstrates the company's strong commitment to addressing the challenge of drug resistance in tumors. At the same time, it also indicates that the novel protein degradation technology will be widely used in the treatment of refractory tumors.
