Analysis of the development situation of China's polyethylene resin industry
In recent years, China's polyethylene production and apparent consumption have shown an upward trend. In 2019, the output was 17.79 million tons and the consumption was approximately 34.69 million tons. There are more than 30 PE companies in production in my country, and the top ten companies account for nearly half of the total domestic production capacity. In terms of import and export, my country's polyethylene resin import volume is showing a steady growth trend, while the export volume fluctuates at a low level.
Polyethylene, referred to as PE, is a thermoplastic resin made by polymerization of ethylene. In industry, it also includes copolymers of ethylene and a small amount of α-olefins. Polyethylene is odorless, non-toxic, feels like wax, has excellent low temperature resistance (the lowest temperature can reach -70~-100℃), has good chemical stability, and can withstand most acids and alkalis (not resistant to oxidizing properties) The acid), insoluble in general solvents at room temperature, low water absorption, excellent electrical insulation performance.
Polyethylene is very sensitive to environmental stress (chemical and mechanical effects) and has poor heat aging resistance. The properties of polyethylene vary from species to species, mainly depending on the molecular structure and density. Different production methods can be used to obtain products with different densities (0.91~0.96g/cm3). Polyethylene can be processed by general thermoplastic molding methods (see plastic processing). It has a wide range of uses, mainly used to manufacture films, containers, pipes, monofilaments, wires and cables, daily necessities, etc., and can be used as high-frequency insulating materials for televisions, radars, etc.
1. China's polyethylene resin output is nearly 18 million tons
Due to the increasingly fierce competition in the polyethylene market in recent years, coupled with increasingly stringent environmental supervision, some small and medium-sized enterprises have entered a state of indefinite shutdown, and the growth rate of polyethylene production has begun to slow down. In the past two years, China's PE petrochemical equipment has been overhauled, the operating rate is relatively high, and the output is gradually released. In 2019, my country's polyethylene resin (PE) output was 17.79 million tons.
In 2019, the country's new PE production capacity was 900,000 tons per year, an increase of 4.6% from the end of 2018, and the launch was delayed compared with the beginning of the year. This year's domestic output mainly comes from new production capacity: Jiutai Energy, Zhong'an Energy, Ningxia Baofeng, Zhonghai Shell, and Yanchang Energy and Chemical plants are put into operation. Most of the new devices added in 2019 are full-density devices. In 2020, domestic polyethylene production capacity is still waiting to be put into use.
2. China's apparent consumption of polyethylene (PE) resin is nearly 37 million tons
From 2012 to 2019, my country’s apparent consumption of polyethylene (PE) resin showed an overall growth trend year by year. The apparent domestic polyethylene consumption in 2019 was approximately 34.69 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 4.11 million tons.
3, China's polyethylene (PE) market is highly concentrated
According to statistics from Zhuochuang Information, there are more than 30 PE companies in production in my country, including CNOOC and Shell, Daqing Petrochemical, Dushanzi Petrochemical, Fushun Petrochemical, Maoming Petrochemical and other companies. The top ten PE production capacity companies account for nearly half of the total domestic production capacity. The overall market concentration is relatively high.
4. China's polyethylene resin trade deficit is huge
Overall, the import volume of polyethylene resin shows a steady growth trend, while the export volume fluctuates at a low level. According to statistics from the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, in 2019, my country's polyethylene imports were 16.66 million tons and exports were 282,500 tons.
