Galan Lithium Secures 23,000 Tons of Lithium Sales Contract, $4 Million Deposit, CEO Predicts Explosive Growth in Lithium Market
Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega, CEO of Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN), has firm confidence in the future prospects of the lithium industry and expects the lithium market to show strong growth trends.
On August 26, Galan Lithium signed a memorandum of understanding with Chinese battery manufacturer Chengdu Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and signed a prepayment agreement. Under the agreement, once a definitive agreement is reached, Chemphys will purchase a total of 23,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent produced over the next five years from the first phase of Galan's Hombre Muerto West project in Argentina, which will be supplied as lithium chloride products. In addition, the company will provide Galan with an upfront payment of $40 million.
In an interview with Investment News Network, Mr Vargas de la Vega said: "This agreement demonstrates the long-term prospects of the lithium industry and the strength of the lithium battery revolution we have witnessed." He further explained: "The expansion of converter and battery manufacturers has been observed, which indicates that they need more lithium to meet market demand. This reflects growing demand for lithium in China, which may not be met by existing lithium supplies in the long term. Therefore, the price of lithium is expected to rise."
Mr Vargas de la Vega added: "I cannot predict exactly when prices will recover, it could be three months, six months or 12 months... But when we start production, we believe we're going to be in a completely different pricing environment and we're going to start reaping the rewards from all the hard work we've done over the years to become producers."
He also added that Galan Lithium has the opportunity to enter the second stage and increase production from 5,000 tonnes to 21,000 tonnes. Galan's Hombre Muerto West project is expected to come on stream in 2025.
