AkzoNobel develops new ultra-durable low-eco powder coating
AkzoNobel has developed an ultra-durable low-bake powder coating that helps protect building surfaces in more challenging environments.
Following the launch of the Standard Durability option in 2023, the new Interpon D2525 Low-E range is designed to withstand more extreme conditions, such as exposure to severe weather. With an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), it also offers extended service life in standard environments.
Using the industry-first technology introduced by the company last year in the Standard Durability option, the new range can cure at temperatures as low as 150◦C while still meeting the highest quality and performance levels demanded by customers in the construction industry.
“This latest innovation reflects our commitment to listening to our customers and offering them a range of products that combine multiple benefits, such as longer durability and lower curing costs, without compromising on aesthetics,” said Bob Dirks, Global Architectural Segment Manager for AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business. “It also supports collective responsibility for a more sustainable future and underscores our commitment to sustainability across the value chain.”
Interpon D2525 Low-E cures at both lower temperatures (150◦C compared to standard curing temperatures of 180◦C to 200◦C), reducing energy consumption by 20%, and 25% faster than conventional powders, allowing more products to be coated in less time and improving coating line efficiency. In addition to supporting customers in reducing their carbon footprint, it will also help AkzoNobel achieve its goal of reducing carbon emissions across the entire value chain by 50% by 2030.
