SI Group to close its alkylphenol manufacturing facility in Singapore
SI Group has announced plans to close its alkylphenol manufacturing facility on Jurong Island, Singapore, in the second half of 2025. The Group will continue to supply alkylphenols through its market-leading global footprint, with supply points in Europe and the Americas.
SI Group opened its alkylphenol manufacturing facility on Jurong Island in 2006 to supply alkylphenols to consumers in the Asia-Pacific region and produce antioxidant products. However, due to significant changes in the antioxidant value chain in the region in recent years, coupled with high costs in Singapore, the company will cease production there next year.
“The Group’s manufacturing facility in Singapore has been a valuable asset to our past growth and global reach,” said Joey Gullion, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of SI Group. “However, the current supply-demand balance in Asia and manufacturing costs in the region make the decision to close the facility a necessary move to ensure the long-term sustainability of our global business.”
As a global leader in performance additives, SI Group remains committed to being a value-added solutions provider to customers around the world. With alkylphenol manufacturing facilities in Europe and the Americas, the Group will maintain its leading position in the alkylphenol market and maintain its level of customer and technical service support.
“We have changed our strategy in the Asia Pacific region to better meet the needs of our customers. The region is important to our business and we believe this new approach will help us balance market dynamics and cost position,” said David Bradley, President and CEO of SI Group. “Our recent collaboration with Dingjide and the difficult but necessary decision to close our Singapore facility underscore our commitment to serving our customers – we are now better equipped and excited to support our customers’ growth, both now and in the future.”
SI Group’s Singapore manufacturing facility is expected to cease manufacturing operations in the second half of 2025. The company will provide support and assistance to all employees affected by the plant closure.
