Import alert is an important measure taken by FDA to deal with potentially risky imported food. For those companies or products on the import alert list, FDA will implement automatic detention (DWPE) without specific inspection of these companies or products. It is important to note that automatic withholding does not mean that an export does not meet US import standards. For imported goods that are automatically detained, they must be inspected and qualified by FDA or FDA-approved laboratories, and then approved by FDA's local branches before customs will grant release and allow these products to enter the US market for sale.
