Linde invests USD 120 million in largest air separation unit for PT Freeport in Indonesia

ECHEMI 2024-11-07

Linde, a leading global industrial gases and engineering company, has announced the successful start-up of its new air separation unit (ASU) in Indonesia. This major USD 120 million investment is a milestone in Linde’s expansion in Southeast Asia, highlighting the growing demand for industrial gases in the region.

The state-of-the-art ASU, the largest in Indonesia and Linde’s largest in Southeast Asia, is currently supplying oxygen and nitrogen to PT Freeport Indonesia’s new copper smelter and refinery in Manyar. This world-class facility is expected to become one of the largest copper processing sites in the world.

Moloy Banerjee, President of Linde ASEAN and South Asia, said: “We are pleased to support PT Freeport Indonesia’s expansion and contribute to the growth of Indonesia’s industrial sector. Our new ASU is equipped with advanced technology that will not only improve PT Freeport Indonesia’s operational efficiency and productivity, but will also benefit other industries in East Java by providing a reliable and sustainable supply of gas.”

Linde’s investment in this project is in line with its commitment to sustainable development and reducing environmental impact. The new ASU is designed to minimize emissions and optimize energy consumption, contributing to a greener future.
