Linde invests $1.8 billion to supply OCI with hydrogen
Linde announced that the company has signed a long-term agreement with OCI to invest US$1.8 billion to supply clean hydrogen and other industrial gases to OCI's world-scale blue ammonia plant in Beaumont, Texas, USA.
Linde will build, own and operate a large complex on-site with facilities involving an autothermal reformer, associated carbon capture and a large air separation unit. The complex will be integrated into Linde's other industrial gas facilities in the US Gulf of Mexico and will supply clean hydrogen and nitrogen to OCI's 1.1 million metric tons per year blue ammonia plant.
Linde said the plant will absorb more than 1.7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year while supplying OCI with clean hydrogen. In addition to supplying OCI, the company plans to use its extensive pipeline network to supply clean hydrogen to existing and new customers on the U.S. Gulf Coast to meet its growing demand for decarbonized operations and to provide associated gas. Linde's $1.8 billion investment project is expected to come online in 2025.
Linde CEO Lan Shengjie said that as one of the world's leading industrial gases and engineering companies, Linde plays a key role in the transition to clean energy. The company actively helps customers achieve low-carbon operations through the use of the latest hydrogen energy technology, through high-quality engineering teams, partners and commercial projects, as well as rich experience and extensive infrastructure. Currently, Linde has been involved in a series of clean hydrogen energy projects covering various applications and industries, and is constantly expanding its business scale throughout the entire hydrogen energy industry chain. Lan Shengjie said: "Linde already has the ability to transition to a low-carbon economy. Linde's strategy is to join hands with partners like OCI to safely and reliably provide a large amount of low-carbon industrial gases to achieve decarbonization goals. With Linde over the years With the successful experience in this area and the extensive gas pipeline network, the company is ready to implement more clean energy projects."
