Mitsui Chemicals Develops High-Purity Phosphorus Material Recycling Technology
Mitsui Chemicals and its wholly owned subsidiary Shimonoseki Mitsui Chemicals have begun developing recycling technology required to produce high-purity phosphorus materials in Japan. The project aims to recover phosphoric acid from underutilized phosphorus resources and convert it into high-value-added products, namely high-purity phosphorus materials, for reuse in the manufacturing industry.
The above development work is part of a project jointly proposed by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Yoneyama Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and Saga University, which was selected as a subject of the "Emerging Industries and Innovative Technology Creation Feasibility Study Program" by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan after an open call for proposals.
This research project aims to recycle underutilized phosphorus resources such as phosphorus-containing waste and by-products generated in Japan's manufacturing industry into high-purity phosphorus materials and reuse them as high-value-added products. To this end, the project aims to establish technology to purify the recovered phosphorus at the atomic and molecular levels and reuse it in a wide range of manufacturing fields.
