Mitsui Chemicals to implement recycling technology for eyeglass lens materials
Mitsui Chemicals announced that it has developed new technology to chemically recycle scraps and waste lenses generated during the production and processing of MR ophthalmic lens materials, reuse them for MR ophthalmic lens materials, and has begun to put the technology into practice.
Eyeglass lenses go through multiple processes before becoming final products, including lens molding, prescription processing, surface processing, edging by lens manufacturers, and frame installation at retail stores. Currently, most of the lens fragments and waste lenses generated in these processes are discarded.
Mitsui Chemicals has launched a revolutionary new initiative to recycle lens fragments and waste lenses and chemically recycle them using the company's new technology. This new technology allows these materials to be reused for MR ophthalmic lens materials while maintaining the highest quality standards. This requires high levels of transparency, strength, etc. Mitsui Chemicals aims to achieve a circular economy by establishing a business model that covers the entire ophthalmic lens value chain.
