Taiwan Seizes 36 Kilograms of Illegal Dyed Black Pepper
On November 26, 2024, Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration released a list of non-compliant food items discovered during border inspections, including a batch of black pepper from South Africa found to contain illegal coloring agents. According to the report, the manufacturer or exporter of this batch was CAPE FOODS, while the importer in Taiwan was Dafy International Enterprise Co., Ltd.
Investigations revealed that this batch of black pepper contained unauthorized Sudan IV dye. This type of addition is prohibited under Article 15, Section 1, Clauses 3 and 10 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act. The total weight of the non-compliant black pepper was 36.00 kilograms, and these products have been returned or destroyed.
