EVA imports in March increased year-on-year and month-on-month

According to customs statistics, China's EVA imports in March 2021 were 136,100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 33.43% and a month-on-month increase of 83.67%. The cumulative import volume from January to March was 320,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.31%. The average import price of the month was US$2168.6/ton, an increase of 45.23% year-on-year. Imports recorded high growth in March. On the one hand, it was affected by the low base effect last year, and on the other hand, the boom brought about the full recovery of domestic and foreign demand. In addition, after the Spring Festival, the prices of bulk raw materials rose rapidly, and EVA followed suit. With the rapid growth, profits have been greatly compressed under the pressure of high costs, so imported low-priced sources are more popular.

The following introduces you the performance of China's imported EVA market in March 2021 from the three main aspects of import source country, provinces, municipalities and import trade methods.

From the perspective of importing countries, South Korea is still the main importer. In March, South Korea exported about 47,000 tons of polyethylene to my country, accounting for 34.8%; China Taiwan exported about 32,000 tons to my country, ranking second with 23.3% ; Saudi Arabia exports about 11,000 tons to my country, ranking third, accounting for 8.1%. In March 2021, the number of EVA exported from India to China was only 0.001 million tons. Therefore, the current severity of the covid-19 in India has little impact on my country's subsequent imports of Indian resources.

From the import data of various provinces and cities, it can be seen that East China and South China are the main import regions in China. In March, Zhejiang Province imported 39,800 tons, accounting for 29.2%; Fujian Province imported 33,500 tons, accounting for 24.6%; Jiangsu Province imported 22,800 tons, accounting for 16.8%. The proportion of the top ten has changed partially. Hebei, Anhui, and Tianjin replaced Sichuan, Liaoning, and Hunan in the top ten import data of various provinces and cities, and other changes in the pattern were limited.

In terms of EVA trade in March, general trade accounted for 85.4%, an increase of 82.84% month-on-month, and the import volume was about 116,200 tons. Imported processing trade accounted for 10.26%, an increase of 61.75% from the previous month. The import volume was about 14,000 tons, and the absolute import volume was on the rise. From the perspective of the overall trade pattern, the overall scale of the import market has clearly recovered in March.

Statistics show that the export volume of EVA in March 2021 was about 4,500 tons, an increase of 115.89% month-on-month and a year-on-year decrease of 12.55%. The cumulative export volume from January to March was 12,000 tons, and the average export price for that month was US$3022.8/ton. my country's EVA mainly meets domestic demand, and the export volume is very small.

In April 2021, Yanshan Petrochemical’s 200,000-ton LDPE/EVA plant and 40,000-ton organic EVA plant were shut down for the entire month. At the same time, Ningbo Formosa Plastics and Levima had monthly maintenance plans, resulting in relatively tight domestic supply. Therefore, the import volume may increase in April, but the export volume may decrease.
