China's Titanium Dioxide Exports Reach Record High with 15.84% Growth in 2024
Recent customs data reveals that in December 2024, China exported 158,400 tons of titanium dioxide, marking a 6.09% increase month-over-month and a 10.53% rise year-over-year. The total export volume for the year reached approximately 1.9017 million tons, reflecting an increase of 260,000 tons and a 15.84% growth compared to the previous year, setting a new historical record.
According to Sun Zheyuan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Titanium Dioxide Division at the National Chemical Productivity Promotion Center, the growth in exports is primarily driven by increasing market demand, along with the product's competitive pricing and quality. The demand for titanium dioxide continues to rise, especially in industries such as coatings, plastics, and paper, providing ample market opportunities for Chinese exports. Rapidly developing countries like India, Brazil, and Turkey have emerged as significant markets for Chinese titanium dioxide.
In recent years, titanium dioxide producers have made notable advancements in controlling production costs, particularly through the sulfuric acid method, enabling them to produce high-quality products at lower costs, thus enhancing their competitiveness in the international market. Additionally, the advantages of the chlorination process are becoming more apparent, leading to increased industry concentration.
Despite anti-dumping policies imposed by the EU, Brazil, and India, China's export volume has continued to grow. This indicates a strong competitive position for the Chinese titanium dioxide industry in the global market, as companies optimize their export market structure and increase shipments to Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America, effectively mitigating the adverse impacts of anti-dumping measures.
Looking ahead to 2025, Sun anticipates continued global demand for titanium dioxide, driven by accelerating infrastructure projects, particularly in countries like India and Brazil. In response to potential ongoing anti-dumping policies, Chinese titanium dioxide companies will further diversify their export markets to maintain growth.
