Orion Signs Tire Pyrolysis Oil Supply Agreement with Contec
Orion SA, a global specialty chemicals company, announced today that it has signed a long-term supply agreement with Contec SA to provide Orion tire pyrolysis oil to produce recycled carbon black for tire and rubber product customers.
The agreement with Contec in Warsaw, Poland, further enables Orion to diversify its sources of tire pyrolysis oil (TPO),
“With Contec’s supply of ConPyro TPO, Orion will be able to produce recycled grades of carbon black at scale to meet the growing needs of the world’s leading tire and rubber product producers,” said Corning Painter, Orion CEO. “This is another way Orion is accelerating the transition to a circular economy.”
TPO-based manufacturing is the only circular technology that has entered industrial production to produce high-quality activated carbon black. The process takes discarded, end-of-life tires and exposes them to high temperatures to produce a feedstock that Orion can convert into virgin carbon black.
Orion is the only company to produce recycled carbon black from 100% TPO. The company has also demonstrated that its circular products can replace virgin carbon black in many applications.
“At Contec, sustainability is one of our core values. This collaboration clearly demonstrates to the market that the industry is evolving and that the circular economy is no longer just a vision for the future – through the partnership with Orion, it is a tangible reality today,” said Krzysztof Wróblewski, CEO of Contec SA.
