Orion Opens Second Carbon Black Plant in China, Expanding Its Presence in the Asian Market
On November 21, 2023, specialty chemicals company Orion celebrated the completion of its first greenfield project in China. Orion establishes a new carbon black plant in Huaibei City, Anwei Province, aiming to meet the rapidly growing demand in the Asian market.
The new plant in Huaibei City, Anhui Province, will produce carbon black for a variety of applications, including coatings, printing inks, rubber, polymers, fibers and elastomers. The base's two production lines have a total production capacity of 70 tons per year.
"The Huaibei carbon black plant is a huge milestone for Orion. The state-of-the-art facility allows us to better support our Chinese customers with products made in China." commented Orion CEO Corning Painter, "Now we can reallocate production lines in the United States and Europe, and speed up supply efficiency in the European and American markets."
The Huaibei carbon black plant is Orion's second plant in China. Another plant, located in Qingdao, Shandong Province, was built in 1994 and produces various grades of carbon black for tires, mechanical rubber products and specialty applications.
"Despite the severe epidemic and ongoing difficulties and challenges during the construction of the Huaibei carbon black plant, our employees, contractors and leadership team successfully completed the project under extremely difficult circumstances," the CEO said. The opening of the Huaibei factory not only marks Orion's growing influence in the global market, but also highlights the company's ability to respond to and overcome global challenges, reflecting its industry resilience and innovation.
Orion has a corporate history of more than 160 years and is the world's leading carbon black supplier. This carbon black material is used for toning, coloring, enhancing conductivity, enhancing durability and UV protection, and is widely used in various major industries. The company has 15 factories around the world, aiming to provide customers with diverse production processes.
