Sika Acquires Singapore-Based Roofing Supplier Elmich
Sika has acquired Elmich Pte Ltd, a leading urban greening systems supplier headquartered in Singapore. Elmich’s best-in-class products are highly regarded by specifiers and its solutions have been used in many iconic buildings in Singapore and Australia. The acquisition complements Sika’s roofing portfolio in the region and strengthens its specification business for commercial and residential projects.
Elmich is a trusted supplier of innovative, sustainable green roof solutions, renowned for their outstanding performance and durability. Established over 40 years ago, Elmich has established strong relationships with major developers and a strong position in the green roof space. The company offers urban greening systems using proprietary expertise and products made from 100% recycled raw materials.
With this acquisition, Sika has gained a new platform for growth in the Asia Pacific region. Sika will be able to leverage Elmich’s specification approach across its broad portfolio and strengthen its commercial and residential specification business in the region. In addition, the integration of Elmich’s urban greening product range provides more exciting cross-selling opportunities for Sika’s complementary roofing and waterproofing products and expands regional reach.
Green roofs and facades are a fast-growing market segment, with an increasing number of projects being implemented in major cities. In Asia Pacific, the market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% by 2032.
High-density urbanization leads to rising temperatures and declining air quality. Green roofs and facades can effectively mitigate the urban heat island effect, improve air quality and protect biodiversity. In addition to their significant cooling effect, they also reduce CO2 through their insulation properties, thereby saving energy and promoting carbon absorption and storage by vegetation.
Philippe Jost, Sika's Regional Manager for Asia Pacific, said: "Green roofs and facades make metropolitan areas more liveable by increasing aesthetics, improving air quality and reducing heat. This acquisition will strengthen our position in large cities where green roofs are gaining momentum. Together, we will further develop our commercial and residential specifications business, leveraging our combined expertise and product portfolio as well as Sika's wider geographical coverage."
