Sika Opens Mortar Plant in Ecuador
With the opening of its new plant in Quito, Sika further strengthens its presence and close ties with customers in Ecuador. This strategic investment strengthens Sika’s ability to fully tap the market potential of mortar solutions in Ecuador, which will be used primarily for interior walls and tile adhesives.
Sika already operates a mortar production plant within the economic zone of Guayaquil, the largest city in southern Ecuador. Until now, supplies to the northern Quito region have come from this plant. With the new plant in Quito, Sika will optimize its national supply chain, shorten transportation routes, serve customers more efficiently and reduce its carbon footprint.
Sika is well known in Ecuador and around the world for its innovative and high-performance solutions for the construction industry. Sika has a decades-long presence in Ecuador and is a trusted partner for customers in all market segments. Sika’s tile adhesives business and product offering were significantly strengthened with the acquisition of Parex in 2019, which has since given Sika a leading position in Ecuador in tile laying materials and mortars.
Mike Campion, Regional Manager for the Americas, said: “Our new facility in Quito comes at a critical time when Ecuador’s construction industry is rebounding strongly. Sika is well positioned to provide high-quality, innovative solutions to growing markets in northern and southern Ecuador.”
After three years of slump, Ecuador’s construction industry is expected to recover, with an average annual growth rate of 4.3% expected through 2028. Investments in mining, transportation, power infrastructure, as well as residential construction projects will drive the industry’s recovery.
