Vietnam Prioritizes 3 Cross-Border Rail Projects Amid Xi Jinping’s Visit

ECHEMI 2025-04-15

As Chinese President Xi Jinping embarks on a state visit to Vietnam from April 14 to 15, Vietnamese President and Communist Party Chief To Lam has emphasized the urgency of strengthening ties with China in defense, security, and infrastructure.

In an article published in Chinese state media, To Lam highlighted the development of three strategic rail links between Vietnam and China as a top priority. These projects aim to enhance infrastructure connectivity and signify Vietnam’s intention to deepen bilateral relations and advance regional integration with China.

The proposed rail links include the Lao Cai–Hanoi–Haiphong corridor, the Dong Dang–Hanoi line, and the Mang Jie–Ha Long–Haiphong route. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to boost trade and supply chain cooperation between the two nations.

Xi Jinping’s visit is expected to result in the signing of approximately 40 agreements spanning various sectors, including defense, infrastructure, and railway development. This visit underscores the strategic importance both countries place on their bilateral relationship amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
