India Delays Enforcement of BIS Rules on 3 Chemicals Until March 2026

Exporters to India just gained a critical extension. On April 10, India’s Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals confirmed that mandatory quality orders for three key industrial chemicals — Vinyl Acetate Monomer, Methyl Acrylate, and Ethyl Acrylate — have been postponed by a full year. These regulations, which were initially scheduled to begin on March 31, 2025, will now take effect on March 31, 2026.

Once enforced, the quality control orders will require all products to meet Indian Standards and obtain BIS certification before entering the Indian market. Any product without the BIS standard mark will be denied entry.

Exporters are urged to act early. The 12-month delay offers a valuable window to complete product testing, certification, and regulatory alignment. Missing the revised deadline could mean a complete market shutdown for non-compliant shipments.
