FDA Approves Calcium Phosphate as Color Additive New Rule Effective June 26

ECHEMI 2025-05-15

On May 12, 2025, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued rule 2025-08249, amending the color additives exempt from certification list to approve Calcium Phosphate as a color additive. This additive is now permitted for use in ready-to-eat chicken products, white candy melts, donut sugars, and sugar-coated candies.

The rule will officially take effect on June 26, 2025, with any objections required to be submitted by June 11, 2025. This decision marks a significant update to FDA regulations, enhancing formulation options for the food industry while maintaining compliance with safety standards.
