Huntsman Expands Texas Plant to Secure E-GRADE Supply for Surging AI Chip Demand
On May 22, chemical giant Huntsman announced a major capacity expansion at its Conroe, Texas facility, signaling a strategic move to meet soaring global demand for semiconductor-grade materials amid the AI boom.
The expansion adds a new E-GRADE® production unit, enhancing the company’s ability to deliver ultra-high purity amines—including quaternary and oxide amines—used in chipmaking processes. These critical chemicals support applications like photoresist development, wafer cleaning, etching, and stripping, essential in advanced semiconductor fabrication.
Peter Huntsman, the company’s Chairman, President, and CEO, emphasized that the investment aligns with the growing need for next-generation chips and reflects Huntsman’s commitment to supply chain resilience and innovation. “AI is accelerating demand for advanced nodes. Our expansion in Conroe enables us to better support global customers with reliable, high-quality solutions,” he said.
The E-GRADE® line is engineered for extremely low trace metal content, ensuring chemical consistency across purification, blending, and packaging. This level of precision is vital for reducing contamination and enhancing process reliability in semiconductor and flat panel display manufacturing.
Huntsman’s expanded presence in Texas strengthens its position in the fast-evolving electronics materials market, offering safer and more sustainable chemical solutions amid tightening global supply chains. As the semiconductor industry races to keep up with AI infrastructure growth, investments like this are crucial to ensuring material availability and process integrity.
