Over 90 Percent Biodegradable in 12 Months COSMAX Unveils Game Changing Eco Adhesive
In a bold step toward sustainability, COSMAX, the world’s leading cosmetics ODM company, has introduced a biodegradable hot melt adhesive that could transform how beauty products are packaged. Developed over two years in collaboration with Dongsung Chemical, the new adhesive is based on PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate), a biodegradable material designed to replace traditional petroleum-based glues in items such as cushion compacts and eyeshadow palettes.
While petroleum-derived adhesives have long dominated the industry due to their strong bonding capabilities, they come at a high environmental cost—high CO₂ emissions and harmful VOCs during production and application. COSMAX’s breakthrough offers a powerful alternative. Laboratory testing shows the PHA-based adhesive achieves over 90% natural degradation within one year, whether in soil or marine environments.
The company has already begun phasing in the biodegradable adhesive into its packaging solutions and is securing exclusive sourcing rights to ensure supply chain control. Select clients will gain early access to this material as COSMAX seeks to protect its technological edge.
To reinforce its commitment to green innovation, COSMAX established a Packaging Science Lab in late 2022, focused on sustainable beauty packaging. This latest development cements its leadership in eco-conscious product design, responding to increasing consumer and industry demands for environmentally responsible beauty.
