Elementis Sells Talc Business to Focus on Coatings and Personal Care

ECHEMI 2025-06-06

Elementis plc recently announced the sale of its talc business to IMI Fabi for $121 million, which is an important step in the company's strategic transformation and will focus more on its core specialty additives business in the coatings and personal care fields in the future.

The transaction will bring Elementis approximately $55 million in net cash income and improve its operating profit margin by approximately 240 basis points, significantly advancing its 2026 financial targets. The transaction was facilitated by a strategic review launched in August last year. All talc assets, plants and employees have been transferred to IMI Fabi, and these resources will continue to operate under the Mondo Minerals and IMI Fabi brands.

New CEO Luc van Ravenstein confirmed a $50 million share buyback plan immediately after taking over in April 2025, fully demonstrating management's firm confidence in the development prospects of the streamlined company.

Through this divestiture, Elementis will not only be able to focus its resources on the high-margin coatings and personal care markets, but will also create greater value for shareholders by improving profitability and cash flow, combined with a share repurchase program.
