Indian Pharma Market Grows 7.2% in May GSK’s Augmentin Slips to 12th

ECHEMI 2025-06-16

The Indian pharmaceutical market expanded by 7.2% in May 2025, reaching a total sales value of ₹19,720 crore, according to PharmaTrack. This growth was largely driven by price increases and new product launches, although volume growth remained subdued at 0.4%.

Year-over-year growth improved by 2 percentage points, up from 5.2% during the same period in 2024. However, it marked a slight decline from 7.8% in April and 7.5% in March.

Among top brands, GSK’s Augmentin saw a sharp fall, dropping to the 12th spot with monthly sales of ₹52 crore, down from ₹66 crore in April when it ranked third. Despite this, Augmentin retained its dominance on an annual basis with a moving annual turnover (MAT) of ₹819 crore.

Leading sales in May were USV’s Glycomet and Alkem’s Pan, with revenues of ₹74 crore and ₹70 crore, respectively.

Looking ahead, acute therapy segments such as cough and cold, analgesics, antimalarials, and haematinics are expected to grow in the next quarter, fueled by seasonal demand.
