Novo Nordisk Signs $812 Million Deal with Deep Apple for New Obesity Drugs
June 12, 2025: Denmark-based Novo Nordisk has partnered with Deep Apple Therapeutics, a California biotech company, in a deal worth up to $812 million to develop groundbreaking treatments for cardiometabolic diseases, including obesity.
Deep Apple uses an AI-based drug discovery platform, scanning billions of virtual compounds to accelerate the development process. Novo will gain exclusive global rights to develop and commercialize non-incretin oral therapies, a new class of drugs distinct from its current bestsellers like Wegovy and Ozempic.
This partnership is part of Novo’s strategy to strengthen its position in the $150 billion weight-loss drug market, following licensing agreements in March with Lexicon Pharmaceuticals and China-based United Laboratories International.
Deep Apple is eligible for up to $812 million in milestone payments, along with potential royalties on future product sales under the agreement.
Novo’s recent challenges include increased competition from Eli Lilly and investor concerns about its drug pipeline. This collaboration signals Novo’s commitment to retaining its leadership in the rapidly growing obesity treatment market.
