ADNOC’s Hail and Ghasha Project Hits Offshore Milestone with 1.5 Billion Cubic Feet Gas Capacity and 1.5 Million Tons CO₂ Removal

ECHEMI 2025-07-10

ADNOC has achieved a critical offshore milestone for its Hail and Ghasha gas development, the world’s largest sour gas project of its kind. Steel jackets forming the core of offshore infrastructure were built locally at the NMDC Energy Yard in Mussafah and successfully installed 160 kilometers offshore using the Safeen-3000 vessel, demonstrating precise engineering and safety.

When operational, the project will deliver 1.5 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas daily—enough to supply the combined daily needs of Ireland, Greece, and Portugal. The facility is engineered for net-zero operations, incorporating advanced carbon capture to eliminate 1.5 million tons of CO₂ annually—the same as taking over 300,000 fossil-fuel cars off the road each year.

Musabbeh Al Kaabi, ADNOC Upstream CEO, highlighted that this achievement not only advances project delivery but also boosts local industry and manufacturing capabilities in the UAE. The development underscores ADNOC’s commitment to the “Make it in the Emirates” initiative and local value creation, with 118 recent Emirati graduates already hired for high-skill roles.

This offshore milestone signals rapid progress toward sustainable energy, local economic growth, and cutting-edge engineering for the UAE’s future.
