225,000 Ton PVC Plant Shuts Down Vynova to Permanently Close Dutch Site After 53 Years
Belgian specialty chemicals giant Vynova has announced the permanent closure of its 225,000-ton-per-year PVC plant in Beek, Netherlands, effective November this year. CEO Christophe André cited ongoing economic, regulatory, and market challenges as driving factors behind the tough decision.
Europe’s PVC sector is under mounting strain from global oversupply, weak demand, and fierce competition from regions with lower costs and lighter regulation. Vynova’s move comes as the construction sector’s seasonal recovery has fallen short, and the market outlook remains bleak.
The Beek facility, in operation since 1972 at the Chemelot industrial park, will be decommissioned after 53 years. Vynova, part of ICIG, will continue PVC production in Germany and France, with supporting raw materials supplied by its Belgian and French sites.
Industry experts widely agree that overcapacity is a structural issue in Europe’s PVC market, requiring plant rationalization to restore balance. Vynova remains committed to reliable service for its core markets despite the challenging environment.
