10-Year EU Approval for Bayer’s Triple-Gene GMO Soybean Glyphosate and Dicamba Tolerance Plus High Oleic Trait
The European Commission has granted a 10-year authorization for Bayer’s genetically modified soybean MON 87705 × MON 87708 × MON 89788, covering both food and feed use across the EU. This advanced soybean variety incorporates fatb1-a and fad2-1a genes from soybean, a DMO gene from Sphingobium herbicidovorans, and an EPSPS gene from Agrobacterium, delivering dual herbicide tolerance (glyphosate and dicamba) along with increased oleic acid content.
Strict labeling and traceability requirements must be met throughout the authorization period, in line with EU GMO regulations. The approval marks a significant step for biotech crops in Europe, with the decision valid until 2035.
