Asahi Kasei pledges to be carbon neutral by 2050
Recently, Asahi Kasei announced that the company promised to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 30% compared to the 2013 fiscal year by 2030. The company’s president Hidetoshi Kobori pointed out in an online interview with reporters: “This important task cannot be borne by future generations, but should be considered from a medium and long-term perspective and do what our generation can do.” Hideyoshi Kobori emphasized that in order to achieve carbon neutrality. To meet the goals of society, we must cooperate with the government, universities and other companies to meet the challenges.
Specifically, Asahi Kasei will be committed to energy decarbonization, manufacturing process innovation and business portfolio transformation. In response to the 2030 target, the company's material department responsible for the large amount of greenhouse gas emissions discussed and set a feasible value. In addition to achieving the company's own goals, it will also contribute to society's greenhouse gas emission reduction through the company's products and technologies. In particular, hydrogen production technology and carbon dioxide adsorption/utilization technology are expected to expand its business worldwide. What is important is the speed at which they enter the market.
In addition, in response to the transformation of the business portfolio, the company has set up 15 businesses and carried out strategic reorganization, focusing on general products in the materials field. The strategic restructuring will be implemented in the next mid-term business plan beginning in fiscal year 2022.
