Siegwerk Expands Coatings Portfolio with Acquisition of Dutch Specialist Allinova
Siegwerk, a global leader in inks and coatings for packaging and label printing applications, has strengthened its market position through the strategic acquisition of Allinova, a Netherlands-based specialty chemicals company renowned for its coating expertise. Headquartered in Hengelo, Allinova brings advanced technical capabilities in water-based dispersion formulation and production to the partnership.
The Dutch company's comprehensive product range, including polymer dispersions, wax emulsions, and adhesives, will significantly enhance Siegwerk's existing packaging coatings offerings. Gilles Le Moigne, Head of Siegwerk's Circular Economy Coatings (CEC) business unit, emphasized the strategic fit: "Allinova's solutions perfectly align with our product portfolio and accelerate our mission to deliver innovative, sustainable coating solutions to the global packaging market."
This acquisition marks a key milestone in Siegwerk's global expansion strategy, extending its technical expertise from converters to paper mills and film manufacturing operations. By combining Allinova's high-performance coating technologies with Siegwerk's worldwide presence and market knowledge, the company is positioned to deliver advanced, application-specific solutions to meet evolving industry demands.
Allinova's founders expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "We've found an ideal partner in Siegwerk," said Gijs Elfrink, Founder and Owner of Allinova. "This integration will enable our expertise to reach global markets through a larger organization." Established in 2005 with an initial focus on flame retardants and wax emulsions, Allinova expanded its portfolio under co-owner Bob Horsthuis, who joined in 2016, to include premium dispersions and other specialty products for packaging applications. Both founders will remain with the company post-acquisition.
The move follows Siegwerk's April 2024 establishment of a new global business unit dedicated to functional coatings for sustainable packaging innovations aligned with circular economy principles. "The Allinova acquisition reinforces our global leadership in functional coatings," explained Siegwerk CEO Nicolas Wiedmann. "This strategic move enhances our position as an enabler of circular packaging solutions across all applications and technologies, allowing us to better serve our customers worldwide."
