Global Food Policy Shift 60-Day Rice Import Ban in Philippines EU Issues 5 Recalls on Chinese Exports in One Week

Food trade regulations saw major updates this week (August 11-15), impacting import and export flows across Asia, Europe, and beyond. The Philippines announced a 60-day suspension of rice imports starting September 1 to protect local farmers during the harvest peak. Meanwhile, Russia dropped wheat and corn export tariffs to zero, and Argentina’s new livestock rules prompted Chile to halt meat imports from Patagonia over animal health concerns.

Japan relaxed residue checks on Chinese onions and immature peas, but tightened controls on neonicotinoid residues in Chinese radishes. Australia alerted that shrimp import inspections at Melbourne and Sydney ports will take longer.
