EU RASFF Issues 8 Alerts on Chinese Food and Products in One Week Heavy Metals and Unauthorized Additives Trigger Recalls

In week 33 of 2025, the EU’s RASFF issued 8 notifications regarding Chinese food and related products, highlighting a surge in safety concerns. The alerts covered a range of items including dehydrated ginger, kitchenware, knives, candies, and frozen mushrooms.

Key issues included excessive cadmium and lead in dehydrated ginger, which reached markets in Luxembourg, Monaco, and Portugal, and unauthorized use of titanium dioxide in fruit-flavored candy. Other alerts targeted kitchen tools with excessive primary aromatic amine or formaldehyde migration, corroded knives, and polypropylene bowls with high overall migration.

Multiple products faced recalls, destruction, or customs detention before entering the market. Exporters are strongly urged to comply with EU safety standards, especially regarding heavy metal residues and migration limits in food-contact materials, to minimize export risks and ensure product safety.
