Short-term ethylene glycol prices may show a strong trend in China
August 25, News
This week, the price of ethylene glycol in China has shown a strong fluctuation.
This week, the ethylene glycol price showed a strong fluctuation. According to the data, as of August 25, the average price of oil-based ethylene glycol in China was 4,501.67 CNY/ton, an increase of 1.50% from the average price of 4,435 CNY/ton on August 1.
Port ethylene glycol, on August 25, 2025, the spot contract price of port ethylene glycol in China slightly strengthened with the market. This week, the basis range for the spot contract was +93 to +103 CNY/ton (September contract), and the basis increased slightly during the day.
The spot price for coal-based polyester-grade ethylene glycol in China (bulk, tax included, self-pickup) for a full truckload is 4050-4100 CNY/ton.
In the overseas monoethylene glycol (MEG) market, recent cargo negotiations have been around $532-536/ton, with firmer offers in the afternoon. Recent cargoes were traded around $532-535/ton in the afternoon, with some suppliers participating in restocking. Additionally, tendered cargo from Taiwan was traded around $538/ton.
In the short term, the probability of ethylene glycol maintaining a strong sideways oscillation is high in China.
This week, the port arrivals of ethylene glycol are low. With a strong expectation for the peak season of downstream polyester, combined with the expectations of a Fed interest rate cut and the anticipation that South Korean petrochemical companies will agree to cut up to 3.7 million tons of naphtha cracking capacity annually, it is expected that ethylene glycol will likely show a strong and volatile trend in the short term. Subsequent attention should be paid to changes in facilities.
