EFSA Publishes Peer Review on Fungicide Prothioconazole
EFSA has completed a peer review of the pesticide risk assessment for prothioconazole, an active fungicide ingredient . According to a report on August 28, 2025, the review evaluated representative uses of prothioconazole on cereals like barley, wheat, oats, rye, spelt, and triticale, including seed treatment uses . The EFSA Panel identified reliable endpoints for regulatory risk assessment and listed any missing information required under the regulatory framework . The peer review, conducted with input from rapporteur countries (the UK and Poland, with France as co-rapporteur), found no critical safety concerns when prothioconazole is used as a fungicide on the specified crops according to current guidelines. It did, however, document areas needing further data or clarification, ensuring that regulators have a complete picture. This EFSA peer review will inform decision-makers as the EU considers the renewal approval conditions for prothioconazole.
