EU Proposes Approval of Triacylglycerol Lipase as Food Additive

ECHEMI 2025-08-31

On August 28, 2025, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) released a public consultation (No. PC-1582) proposing to approve triacylglycerol lipase for use as a food additive . This enzyme additive would be permitted in specified food categories with set maximum levels. For example, the draft regulation suggests allowing lipase up to 1.59 mg/kg in baked products and 0.53 mg/kg in cereal-based products. Stakeholders can send feedback on the proposal until September 18, 2025. Regulators will consider the input before finalizing the new additive rule, which aims to ensure safety while expanding the toolbox of food processing aids.
