Terpineol, whose molecular formula is C10H18O, is also known as terpineol, sycamore oil, and turpentine terpene alcohol. The appearance of terpineol is a colorless viscous liquid or a colorless transparent crystal. It is combustible, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in glycerin, and soluble in ethanol. There are three isomers of terpineol, namely α-terpineol, β-terpineol, and γ-terpineol. Terpineol has a pine wood and clove-like aroma, and is an important spice. It is one of the first synthetic spice to achieve industrial production and is also one of the products with larger production and sales.
Terpineol is naturally present in essential oils such as pine oil, lavender oil, neroli oil, camphor oil, and pine oil. It can be extracted from essential oils, but the output is small and the price is high, which cannot meet the market demand. Therefore, synthetic pine oil Alcohol is the main source. In the industrial field, the preparation method of terpineol is based on Turpentine oil, the main component of pinene is hydrated to produce hydrated terpene diol, and then the finished product is obtained through processes such as dehydration and fractionation. The terpineol produced is three A mixture of isomers, mainly α-terpineol.
Turpentine is an important raw material for the production of terpineol, and its output and price directly affect the development of the terpineol industry. The turpentine oil produced in my country is mainly gum turpentine, which is an accompanying product of Rosin in the production of turpentine. Since 2012, due to factors such as turpentine output and cost, my country's rosin output has shown a downward trend, and the output of turpentine has declined accordingly. In addition to gum turpentine, there is also sulfated turpentine in the world. Due to technical bottlenecks, my country's sulfated turpentine output is low and the product quality is poor, which cannot meet the needs of the terpineol industry. The decline in the production of gum turpentine is not conducive to the development of my country's terpineol industry.
Terpineol is a bulk spice product, used as a flavor, can be blended with lilac, orange blossom, acacia, peach, lemon, orange and other flavors, and can be used in the production of medicine, food, and daily chemical products; Alcohol can also be used as a solvent in the production of inks, pigments, plastics, and pesticides; in addition, electronic grade terpineol can also be used in the production of cleaning agents for printed circuit boards. According to the "Research Report on the Development Prospects and Investment Strategic Planning of the Terpineol Industry during the Fourteenth Five-Year Plan Period" issued by the Xinsijie Industry Research Center, flavors and fragrances are the main application markets for terpineol, and detergents are the main application areas. It accounts for about 33%.
The main producers of terpineol in my country are Fujian Qingsong Co., Ltd., Fujian Jinmin Chemical Co., Ltd., Wuyuan County Tuoyouyou Perfume Co., Ltd., Guangdong Songlin Perfume Co., Ltd., Shanghai Jiachen Chemical Co., Ltd., Shanghai Zhongxin Perfume Co., Ltd. and so on. With the increasingly tight supply of raw material turpentine, large-scale and powerful terpineol companies have more advantages in raw material acquisition and cost control. Therefore, my country's terpineol market is gradually moving closer to large companies.
Industry analysts in Xinxiangjie said that terpineol is one of the major fragrances and is in great demand in the global market. Its application areas are mainly concentrated in the field of daily chemical products, such as SOAP, shower gel, and cosmetics. my country is one of the main producers of terpineol, but the output of turpentine in my country is declining, the supply of raw materials is tight, and prices are rising, which will cause many small and medium-sized terpineol companies with weak anti-risk capabilities to be eliminated. In the future, terpineol companies with stable supply of raw materials, strong cost control capabilities, and high production technology will be in a competitive position.
