Turkey’s BOTAS Expands LNG Supply Portfolio at Gastech 2025
At the Gastech 2025 forum in Milan, Turkey’s state-owned BOTAS signed multiple agreements to diversify its LNG supply sources. Among the deals, BOTAS agreed to purchase 1.2 bcm (approx. 0.9 Mt) of LNG from U.S. company Cheniere.
Turkey also signed a three-year deal with Germany’s SEFE for 0.6 bcm annually (total 1.8 bcm), a two-year 0.6 bcm deal with Hartree, and a 0.6 bcm supply contract with Japan’s JERA. Additionally, BOTAS announced agreements with BP (1.6 bcm/year over three years), Eni (0.5 bcm/year), and Oman LNG.
These agreements aim to reduce Turkey’s dependence on its traditional suppliers, namely the U.S., Algeria, and Nigeria. In 2024, Turkey imported 12 bcm (approx. 9 Mt) of LNG, and by mid-2025 had already reached 9.5 bcm. Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stressed that this diversification will strengthen Turkey’s mid-term energy security and enable new commercial models.
