This week, the TDI market in China rose slightly (11.3-11.7)

November 07, News

According to the commodity market analysis system, this week the TDI market in East China slightly increased. As of November 7, the average market price in East China was 13,666 CNY/ton, and on November 3, it was 13,566 CNY/ton, with a weekly price increase of 0.74%, and a year-on-year increase of 5.53%.

This week, the TDI market in China stopped falling and started to rise. During the week, a factory in the north suspended orders due to tight supply; a major manufacturer in Shanghai raised its price to 14,200 CNY per ton. News of tightening supply continued to emerge, supporting the sentiment of industry players. Traders increased their prices, shifting the focus of transactions upward. Downstream buyers were resistant to the price increases, purchasing only as needed, which limited the growth in transaction volumes.

Supply side: The TDI unit of Wanhua in Fujian is operating at reduced load. Hanwha's 150,000 tons/year TDI unit in South Korea was shut down for maintenance on November 3 and is expected to resume operations around November 20. Covestro in Shanghai has a maintenance plan for November.

Cost aspect: The toluene market has shown a strong upward trend. Toluene market prices are holding firm, with low prices hard to find. The main production areas in China are pushing for price increases, and the prices of related aromatic products are also rising, providing further positive momentum. After a round of price increases, the market is undergoing digestion and consolidation.

Looking ahead, the TDI data analyst believes that suppliers in the current TDI market are firmly holding their prices, while traders are becoming more cautious about offering lower quotes. As a result, market transactions remain sluggish. However, the analyst expects the TDI market to trend stronger in the near term, so close monitoring of future supply-and-demand dynamics is essential.
