PPG Opens Waterborne Automotive Coatings Plant in Thailand with 2,000 Tons Per Year Capacity

PPG announced the launch of a waterborne automotive coatings manufacturing plant in Samutprakarn, Thailand. The plant will enhance PPG’s local production capacity for waterborne primers and help meet the growing demand for sustainable coatings from automotive companies in Southeast Asia.

With a production capacity of 2,000 tons per year and equipped with an automated spray center, the plant will enhance PPG’s service capabilities and improve its competitiveness in the global automotive coatings industry. On March 20, PPG executives and regional automakers held a celebration of the plant opening.

“The automotive industry in Southeast Asia is growing rapidly. The Thai government’s support for electric vehicles has brought great opportunities to global automakers, including Chinese OEMs, and we see the need to expand our business,” said Alisha Bellezza, PPG senior vice president of automotive OEM coatings. “This opening is an important milestone that demonstrates PPG’s commitment to sustainability and highlights its strategic focus on the Southeast Asian market.”

As Chinese automakers expand into new global markets such as Thailand, investments like this plant enable PPG to support customers with localized production and technical support. PPG has established strong partnerships with major Asian automakers, including Chinese brands such as BYD and Chery.
