Three children policy liberalization, these areas of medicine far-reaching impact
The day before Children's Day (May 31), the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held a meeting and released the important news: through the implementation of a couple can have three children policy and supporting measures, in order to help improve China's population structure, the implementation of the national strategy to actively deal with the aging population, and maintain the advantages of human resources endowment.
The news sparked a buzz across the net, and the capital market rose in response: baby and pension concept stocks pulled up sharply at the end of the day. By the end of the day, Clorox shares, Yihua Health stopped, Jianmin Group, Huluwa, a red pharmaceutical, Sunflower Pharmaceuticals, Yabao Pharmaceuticals and Qian Yuan Medicine and other shares pulled up. In addition, the mother and child medical field of David Medical, Baolite and other follow up. With the gradual release of the population policy dividend, will have a deep impact on China's pharmaceutical and health-related fields.
According to incomplete statistics, as of October 2020, China's domestic drugs totaled 157,983 approvals, and 2,956 children's drug-related approvals, accounting for only 1.87%. Divided by type, children's drug approvals are dominated by proprietary Chinese medicines, accounting for nearly 70%. Analyzing the clinical study data of CDE for pediatric indications from 2013 to 2020, the number of clinical trial registrations for pediatric drugs only accounts for less than 5%.
Although the country has developed three batches of "Suggested List of Encouraged R&D Declarations for Children's Drugs" and the overall number of registrations has increased significantly, it is still difficult to meet clinical demand. "This status quo has a lot to do with the ecology of pediatric drug development." Previously, an industry insider explained that the application of children's antibacterial drugs as an example, the intensity of children's antibacterial drug use, the variety of drugs used, the high proportion of injectable drugs, the new, broad-spectrum complex formulation class, the use of third-generation cephalosporins increased year by year. A tertiary hospital data analysis of children's adverse drug reactions, the composition of the proportion of antibacterial drugs accounted for half, followed by vaccines, Chinese medicine, respiratory drugs, neurological drugs and vitamins and nutritional drugs, the urgent clinical need for more children's preparations to promote rational drug use. The most direct obstacle to this situation is the difficulty of clinical research and development. Because the research and development of children's drugs is one of the most invested, time-consuming and complex clinical trials among all drugs, and the scope of application of children's drugs is narrow, companies lack the incentive to continue to innovate.
