BASF and Sinopec have to team up again to make a big deal!
BASF and Sinopec will continue to expand the Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd. (Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF) integrated base in Nanjing, which is jointly funded by the two parties at a 50:50 share ratio. The expansion includes multiple downstream chemical plants including a new tert-butyl acrylate (TBA) plant to meet the growing demand of the Chinese market.
Expansion of the production capacity of several downstream chemical plants
Newly build the first tert-Butyl Acrylate (TBA) production plant built outside Germany using BASF technology to meet the growing demand for specialty chemicals in the Chinese market
Expansion and new installations will be put into operation in 2023
The two parties will expand the production capacity of propionic acid (PA), propionaldehyde (PALD), ethylene amine (EEA), ethanolamine (EOA) and refined ethylene oxide (PEO) at the base and build a new t-butyl acrylate (TBA) plant . The TBA plant will use acrylic acid and ISOBUTYLENE from the integrated base as raw materials to extend downstream. This is the first time this advanced manufacturing process has been applied outside Germany. This round of expansion and new installations will be put into production in 2023.

Ke Diwen, President and Chairman of BASF Greater China
Dr. (Stephan Kothrade):
"This is an important step since we signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding with Sinopec in 2018. We will continue to deepen our long-term partnership. Through this investment portfolio, we will introduce world-class technologies and make full use of the integration. Advantages of chemical base."
Yangzi Petrochemical-President of BASF Co., Ltd.
Yang Sheng (Bram Jansen):
"Our newly introduced tert-butyl ester (TBA) in our product group will further consolidate Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF's market position. Since its establishment 20 years ago, the company has made many achievements. We will expand local production capacity to better satisfy customers. Continuously increasing product demand."
Propionic acid (PA) is a mold inhibitor used to protect food and feed grains. By drying or storing in airtight silos, it has considerable economic and ecological benefits in the storage of food and feed grains. It is also used in the production of medicines, crop protection agents, solvents and thermoplastics.
Ethanolamine (EOA) and Ethylamine (EEA) are surfactants used in the production of crop protection agents, personal and household care products, process chemicals required for gas treatment, lubricants and cement additives, paper chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients的Intermediates.
Propionaldehyde (PALD), as an intermediate, is used as a key raw material for the production of propionic acid and n-propanol. It is mainly used to produce medicines, pesticides, fragrances and plastics.
Refined ethylene oxide (PEO) is a raw material for industrial applications. It is often used in chemical industry synthesis processes to produce ethanolamine, ethylene glycol ether and surfactants required for the production of detergent and detergent products.
Tert-Butyl Acrylate (TBA) is an acrylate used to produce polymers and is used as a synthetic raw material. As a specialty chemical, it can be used in paper sizing and emulsification applications.
