The average market price from the beginning to the end of the week was around 639 CNY/ton, a decrease of 23.38% compared to the same period last year. On September 23rd, the chlor-alkali index was at 735 points, unchanged from yesterday, down 65.46% from the highest point of 2128 points (on October 24, 2021), and up 3.96% from the lowest point of 707 points on February 27, 2026. According to the commodity analysis system, the caustic soda prices in China showed a strong trend this week. In Shandong, the mainstream market price for 32% ion-membrane caustic soda is around 580-680 CNY/ton. In Zhejiang, the delivered price to Xiaoshan for 32% ion-membrane caustic soda is around 830-880 CNY/ton. In Inner Mongolia, the prices for 32% ion-membrane caustic soda are stable, with the mainstream market price at around 1850-1950 CNY/ton (converted to 100%).
This week, the caustic soda price lacked favorable support, and the overall price trend remained stable. The supply of liquid alkali in East China fluctuated slightly in the short term, and both domestic and foreign trade demands did not show significant improvement. Chlor-alkali plants controlled inventory before the holiday, mostly maintaining the current inventory level. The price of alumina showed a volatile trend. As the remaining new capacity for the year is gradually released, the regional supply pressure continues to increase, and the market's pessimistic sentiment remains strong. It is expected that the alumina price will continue to fluctuate. Non-aluminum downstream demand continues to purchase according to needs.
Analysts believe that in the recent period, the caustic soda prices have been consolidating this week. Recently, downstream alumina companies in China have mostly been purchasing according to demand, while non-aluminum enterprises have shown moderate purchasing. Although pre-holiday stockpiling is expected next week, most caustic soda manufacturers will likely maintain their current inventory levels. The overall supply and demand dynamics suggest that caustic soda prices may trend towards fluctuating operations, with specific conditions depending on the downstream market demand.
