Following CMA CGM's announcement that starting from September 9, 2021, its brands will suspend the increase in spot freight rates, another shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has also joined the ranks of "freezing spot freight rates."

According to Lowe's Daily News, Hapag-Lloyd said it has not further increased freight rates in recent weeks. "We believe that the spot freight has already peaked, and we will not further increase the freight." Hapag-Lloyd also emphasized, "We hope the market will slowly begin to calm down." In an interview with Lowe's Daily News, the shipping giant, also from Europe, said: In fact, Hapag-Lloyd has not raised further freight rates for several weeks.
"We think that the spot freight has already peaked, and we are not pursuing a further increase (of freight)," Hapag-Lloyd said. "We hope that the current overheated shipping market will slowly begin to calm down."
However, unlike CMA CGM, which clearly stated the validity period of the suspension of fare increase (September 9, 2021 to February 1, 2022), Hapag-Lloyd did not provide a timetable for the freezing of spot freight rates for the time being, and expressed the freeze The spot freight increase will take effect "temporarily".
