Water intoxication in women who drank fruit juice for 3 weeks

According to the Hong Kong Singdao Daily on April 3, a 40-year-old woman in Tel Aviv, Israel, listened to the advice of an alternative therapist to lose weight and drank only fruit juice and water for three consecutive weeks, eventually leading to water poisoning. Doctors say the woman's brain may be permanently damaged.
It is reported that the woman only drank water and juice for three consecutive weeks to achieve weight loss because she listened to an "alternative therapist".
However, after three weeks, although her weight dropped below 90 pounds (about 41 kg), she developed "water poisoning" caused by hyponatraemia and needed to be treated in hospital. It is reported that the woman is currently in hospital for observation, but doctors said that the woman's brain may have been permanently damaged.
The report points out that in Israel, ordinary people can call themselves "alternative therapists" without obtaining qualification certificates. Patients with hyponatremia usually occur in people who take part in marathons and other sports. They drank a lot of water without electrolyte to replenish water, which dramatically lowered the level of sodium in the blood, resulting in body fluid infiltrating into cells and causing body swelling. When this happens in the brain, there will be brain edema, severe cramps, brain damage, coma and even death.
