Burst! A Fire Broke Out at A BASF Base!

According to news from Changsha High-tech Zone, at about 16:40 on January 23, 2022, a fire broke out in the wet laboratory of BASF Shanshan Battery Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the "Company") located on Jinzhou Avenue, Changsha. The heads of relevant units of fire protection, emergency response, public security, housing construction, environmental protection, streets and other related units in the high-tech zone rushed to the scene to direct the rescue as soon as possible. At 18:30, the open fire was extinguished and no one was injured. The specific reason is under investigation.

 

At about 10:29 on January 24, BASF Shanshan Battery Materials Co., Ltd. issued a statement on its public account saying that at about 16:40 on January 23, 2022, BASF Shanshan Battery Materials Co., Ltd. has a large Changsha base. A fire broke out in the independent pilot laboratory, and the fire was extinguished at 18:30. No one was injured in this incident. The on-site emergency team took proactive measures to reduce the impact of the accident on the surrounding environment. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. According to the monitoring data of the Environmental Protection Bureau, there is no abnormality in the air quality around the base, and relevant government departments are evaluating other environmental impact factors.

 

At present, except for this laboratory, the company's other basic production and research and development activities are still operating normally. Various follow-up work is also being properly arranged and handled.

It is reported that on August 31, 2021, upon approval by relevant departments, BASF and Shanshan Co., Ltd. jointly established a joint venture "BASF Shanshan Battery Materials Co., Ltd." (BASF Shanshan). The new company will be majority-owned by BASF (BASF: 51%; Shanshan: 49%).
